Crested Gecko
Rhacodactylus ciliatus
Here is an outline of how we separate out and price our crested geckos.
First off, we have been selectively breeding cresteds for 10 years now. We have the largest breeding colony in the world and have only been holding back the most outstanding specimens for building our colony. We produce very few plain and drab geckos.
Our "Normal" geckos all have good color and pattern. They are often as nice as or nicer than other breeders select geckos.
Our select geckos are just that. They are hand picked by Allen Repashy. Lots of "Select" geckos will represent a variety of high end morphs, colors, and patterns. An excellent value for the breeders looking to build or improve their colony.
When we hatch out our geckos, they are immediately separated into two groups. 50% go into group "A" and 50% go into group"B."
Group "B" Geckos are the least impressive of the hatching geckos, and are wholesaled out to large pet chains and distributors.
Group "A" Geckos are the best half of what we produce.
Within group "A", we hold back approximately the best 10% for our own breeding stock and "Top of the Line" sales.
We then take the remaining group "A" geckos and split them in half again.
The best half of this group are what we sell as "Select" geckos, and the lesser half of this group are what we sell as "Normal" geckos.
Because we are selecting animals out at an age of less than 1 month, and the fact that much color and pattern is developed with age, a percentage of the normal geckos will turn out to be exceptional specimens. And in the same respect, not all "Select" geckos will turn out to be exceptional specimens.
So if we do some quick math, this is how it breaks down
0%-50%....... Sold Wholesale to distributors and chain stores.
51%-75%...... Sold as our "Normal" Geckos
76%-90%......Sold as our "Select" Geckos
91%-100%.....Held back for breeding and sold as "Top of the Line" geckos on an individual basis.
For individual or small quantity orders of "Select" geckos, we are happy to take requests for color and pattern, and will try to accomodate your desire. We do not provide photos of "Select" geckos, so please don't ask for them.
All juvenile geckos are sold unsexed.
